Chantal Meyer, "Noodle" Aesthetic, 2016, acrylic paint

I liked the clouds and details in the trees and the variation I did.

"Quality piece"

Chantal Meyer, Raw, 2016, Photoshop

I think this was the pinnacle and acme of my art career so far. I really like this piece, because it was the last piece for my concentration pieces and I thought I gave an empowering final impression. I guess I can relate to this piece, struggling to keep up with life, struggling to keep up with reality, trapped in a fantasy.

AC#6

Chantal Meyer, Look, 2016, Digital art, Photoshop

ART STATEMENT FOR ALL COMPOSITION PIECES:

My question was: Do I exist or trapped in a fantasy? I chose this topic because I thought it was interesting and challenging to question our existence and everything around us. Moreover I can express this topic in my art, since art gives you a chance to make your own fantasies and extend your creativity and imagination. I want to express the concept of reality vs fantasy in all my pieces by showing contrast and other elements of art and principles of design. Showing contrast can express the struggle and battle between the two opposing sides.

I used digital art to finally conclude my statement and wrap and connect everything as a whole. By using the same colors of the first piece and the broken pixelated look, it shows the struggle of reality and fantasy.

I like that it wasn't a full portrait and had some broken pieces that still looked in unity but simultaneously bold and empowering. I also like the color and overlay of background and portrait to express emotion of reality vs fantasy.

I want to improve on the variety of colors and the delivery of emotions that I want people to feel when they look at this.

I think overall it gives a sense of completion and empowerment, as it shows both the reality and fantasy together in unity. It also has connected with all of my other pieces resulting a finished look. I hope you like it. :)

AC#5

Chantal Meyer, Feels, 2016, watercolor, pencil

Concept: Do I exist or living in a fantasy?

This shows the contrast and fantasy and reality in a sorrowful, dejected way.

I liked the color and value and emphasis that I used in this piece to really show the forlorn expression that reality creates.

I want to improve on the value of the portrait and texture so it looks even more realistic.

I wanted to express the color to emphasize on reality and being trapped in a fantasy.

AC#4

Chantal Meyer, See, 2016, origami paper, pencil

Concept: Do I exist or living in a fantasy?

I showed from using contrast of color and value to show the struggles of reality and fantasy.

I like the sharp abstract shapes that I made with origami, I also liked value and texture that I used for the portrait.

I want to improve on the jaw line and proportions because I thought some of it was lacking.

I think this shows the gravity or reality because of the shapes and primary colors that I used to show the base and the start or both fantasy and reality. And the yellow triangle that was into the portrait's eye it shows that it is only you to "see" to decide if you are in a fantasy or reality.

AC#3

Chantal Meyer, Mask, 2015, watercolor, pen, pencil

Concept: Do I exist or living in a fantasy?

I made the portrait to represent reality, however is influenced or inside is full of fantasy. I used this by showing contrast, value and color.

I like the texture of the face, proportions of the portrait and the shape of the circle.

I would like to improve on the value of the face and the shapes around the portrait as they were messy.

I wanted to show the contrast of reality and fantasy in a realistic way, it is easier to understand and think about the concept; Do I exist or living in a fantasy?

AC#2

Chantal Meyer, Intense, 2015, watercolor, pencil

Concept: Do I exist or live in a fantasy?

I used unity to connect this piece to the first piece from the red watercolor in the background. It also shows the contrast between the fantasy and reality because the use of value and color.

I like the myriad of colors that I used, the value for the face and the texture that I created for the face.

I would like to improve on the scale and proportions of the face.

This shows how we are trapped in a fantasy, which helps push the question on do we exist or trapped in a world that we created.

AC#1

Chantal Meyer, Union, 2015, acrylic paint

Concept: Do I exist or trapped in a fantasy?

I used colors that were in contrast with each other to represent the difference between existence and fantasy.

I liked the colors that I used, the variety of the colors and also the contrast that I created.

I want to improve on the blotchiness and the show some emphasis since this piece was too broad.

I can portray my thoughts on being trapped in a fantasy in an abstract way.

Social Awareness Poster "Blake"

Chantal Meyer, Social Awareness Poster Photoshop, 2016, Photoshop

I learned how to show importance in something in digital art.

I liked the texture of the head and the color to emphasize the PSA, which made it eye-catching.

I want to improve on the pizza and burger drawings because the colors were a bit too plain.

Chantal Meyer, Surreal Fairy Tale Photoshop, 2016, Photoshop

Chantal Meyer, 2-D to 3-D sculpture, 2016, cardboard, tissue, clay

I learned the creativity and imagination you needed to make a 2-D art work 3-D.

Chantal Meyer, aesthetic/functional ceramic piece—glazed, 2015, glaze

I liked the color that I chose for the nose.

I want to improve on the way I glazed the piece because some of it was rough and some of it was sooth.

Narrative Watercolor Portrait with Hybrid "No."

Chantal Meyer, Narrative Watercolor Portrait with Hybrid, 2016, watercolor, pencil

I learned how to express the connection of the hybrid creature to the portrait.

I liked the calm colors and the value that are normally opposites, blend together so it looked like the hybrid and the portrait connected. I also like the smile, very proud that I could actually draw that!

I want to improve on the flowers and the transition, movement of the hybrid animal.

Collage paper sculpture "Rising Sun"

Chantal Meyer, Collage paper sculpture, 2015, collage paper, watercolors, color pencils

I learned about using perspective and different angles in art to express or show a aesthetic side of still life.

I like how I used value to show texture in still life.

I want to improve on the colors so it looks more realistic. I also think that small details in the coins were lacking and could also improve on that.

Chantal Meyer, collage paper sculpture sketch, 2015, pencils

Drawing sketches were very helpful to give an idea on what the actual piece might look like.

I liked the details and the different perspectives that I drew.

I want to improve on my messy chaotic sketches. Sometimes the scales were not correct.

i
Chantal Meyer, Elements of Art and Principles of Design illustrated cards, 2015, pen, pencil, paint, color pencils, crayon, watercolor

I learned the base of art, which was elements and principles of design.

After learning all the elements of art and principles of design, I feel like I improved a huge amount in art and my art career. I also how you can represent one thing and express it in different ways.

I wish I could improve on the face shape and coloring for these pieces since some of it looked messy.

This is about elements of art and principles of design as a whole. I feel the same way for both elements of art and principles of design so I put them in the same post.

Here is all of my elements of art and principles of design cards. :)

Abstract line/value drawing "Falling and Oblivion"

Chantal Meyer, Abstract line/value drawing, 2015, pencil

The concept for this piece was to learn different types of techniques to create value such as blending, hatching, cross hatching, random and stippling.

I liked how I used variety in this piece to show many value techniques and about me as an artist.

I wish I could improve on the shading and the tones of this piece. It was my first piece and looking back at it, it looked careless and chaotic and there was no emphasis.

Printmaking plate "Optometry"

Chantal Meyer, Printmaking plate and best print from the plate, 2016, ink

I learned the printing is an intricate task that will eventually make you feel like you left a bold empowering statement.

I really liked printing, especially experimenting and being creative with it made a better result. I like the emphasis in this piece.

I want to improve on the inking part, and not leave any left over white.
